Military Tuition Assistance

Military Tuition Assistance is a benefit paid to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Congress has given each service the ability to pay up to 100% of the tuition expenses of its members.

Each service has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application process and restrictions. This money is usually paid directly to the institution by the individual services.

TA is not a loan; it should be viewed as money you have earned just like your base pay.

Army Tuition Information

As the Army approaches the beginning of a new fiscal year and in preparation for year-end close-out, the following guidance is provided concerning the use of Army Tuition Assistance (TA). This message is to provide advanced notification to schools in an effort to minimize the impact of an end-of-year enrollment cut-off while the Army performs fiscal year close-out.

Soldiers must create their Tuition Assistance Request forms for all classes that start on or before 30 September 2013 no later than 23 September 2013.  Army counselors will have until 26 September 2013 (2359 EST) to review, approve and/or reject these forms.  So long as the Soldier requests TA by the cut-off date and it is approved by the Army by the end of the fiscal year, you will be able to invoice the Army for payment.

A message campaign to inform Soldiers and Army Education Center personnel has also been launched. We request your assistance in helping us get the word to Soldiers to enroll before 23 September 2013 for classes that begin on/before 30 September 2013. This message will be posted to the Soldier-view of the GoArmyEd website and a similar message will also be sent to all Army Education Center personnel.

The end-of-fiscal year cut-off has no impact on registration for courses starting 1 Oct 2013 or later (FY14 enrollments). Please note that as always, FY14 enrollments are subject to availability of funds.

Questions regarding this message may be sent to Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC), Alex McNamara, mcnamaraa@aascu.org, 202-478-7805.
