Houston Community College has been designated the seventh most “military friendly” large community college in the nation for 2022-2023.
The ranking was made by Military Friendly, a national advocacy organization that encourages investments by schools to recruit, retain and advance veterans as students or employees.
The organization surveyed more than 1,800 schools across the U.S., focusing on school programs for recruiting and retaining veterans, and creating professional opportunities for service members, veterans and their spouses.
“We are proud to say that this is our second year in a row to receive this national honor,” said Kapree Thomas, director of the HCC Veteran and Military-Affiliated Student Success office. “It’s a testament to the hard work of our team and outreach to military and veteran students. HCC makes learning here affordable, welcoming and inclusive.”
To make the list, schools were ranked on academic policies and compliance, admissions and orientation, culture and commitment, financial aid and assistance, graduation rates and career and military student support and retention.
“HCC understands the unique challenges our military and veteran students face in obtaining their educational goals,” said Chancellor Cesar Maldonado, Ph.D., PE. “From enrollment to graduation, our dedicated team of professionals is passionate about providing coordinated resources and services that support all aspects of our veterans’ success.”
The Military Friendly ratings were started in 2003. A complete list of 2022-2023 Military Friendly Schools will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine.
